About Us

History of liver as a sub speciality in Nepal dates back to 1982 AD when Liver unit was started in Bir hospital by Dr. Santosh Man Shrestha. With limited resources and first ultrasound in the country, the unit started giving services to Nepali patients. Although there have been flood of new institutes in past few years, no institute has started departments or unit dedicated to liver patient. With the view of providing better services to more liver patients in the country, we thought of a need of a center. So, we are here to serve our liver patient and serve our country.

Center for liver disease is the brainchild of Dr. Sudhamshu K.C. and Dr. Dilip Sharma. Dr. K.C. is credited to bring modern hepatology to the country. He, with the help of Dr. Sharma has revolutionized the interventional hepatology in the country with introduction of invasive procedure like transarterial chemoembolization, partial splenic embolization etc., which are now regularly done when indicated.

Center for liver disease is established with a motto of "Save our liver". We have started clinic with diagnostic tools like ultrasound, endoscopy and Fibroscan, first and so far only one in the country. The clinic is well supported by diagnostic lab of national repute, National Reference Laboratory.
