Dr. Sudhamshu K.C. - Hepatologist

Dr. Sudhamshu K.C. did his MBBS from Dhaka University in 1995. He joined as Medical officer in Liver unit after working in general medicine for a couple of months. He worked with Dr. Santosh Man Shrestha and developed passion in liver disease. During his job in Liver unit he got rare chance of meeting the famous Professor Okuda from Japan. It was Prof. Okuda, who recognized the potential of Dr. K.C. and invited him for residency in Chiba university of Japan. Dr. K.C. did 4 years of residency in Graduate school of Medicine in Chiba University and completed PhD from same university in 2004. During his residency he was trained in hepatobiliary ultrasound, endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound and hepatic angiography. He was also exposed to most recent trend in treatment of chronic hepatitis B and C along with other diseases. With an aim of serving his countrymen he returned immediately after completion of his study in 2004.

After his return he joined same Liver Unit and Norvic international hospital. Currently he is Associate Professor (Hepatology) in National Academy of Medical Sciences and Senior Consultant Hepatologist in Norvic international hospital. He has been using his expertise to serve liver patients of Nepal.

He has the credit of starting interventional hepatology in the country. He is regularly doing trans-arterial chemoembolization for liver cancer and partial splenic embolization for large spleen. He also has the credit of treating a very large number of chronic hepatitis B and C patients. Hepatitis C patients, before 2004, used to go to India for treatment. Ablative treatment for liver cancer is also regularly done these days. He, with Dr. Sharma has the credit of introducing Fibroscan in Nepal. He aims to have a advance Liver hospital in future that can perform the liver transplantation.

Dr. K.C. is also keen on research. He has already published about 15 articles in international and national journal. He regularly attends different conferences around the globe every year to update himself so that he can serve more and more patients in this country.
